Who is Dr. Fauci and why are we making him a hero quilt?

Dr. Fauci, a recipient of the Presidential Medal of Freedom, has made long-standing global contributions to public health and infectious disease research. During the worst years of the coronavirus pandemic, when rumors and misinformation was rampant, many of us found the informed reports by Dr. Fauci to be lifesavers, literally. Despite sharing excellent science-based guidance throughout his career, and providing scientific integrity while enduring great political pressure, Dr. Fauci continues to be the subject of intense criticism, personal attacks and threats. Yet he bravely advocates for science and public health. Dr. Fauci is a Modern Day Hero, and during our darkest days, he was our North Star. That is why we planned this particular quilt for him.

Guidelines for Dr. Fauci quilt blocks:

We are making 4.5" unfinished, 6.5" unfinished, and 8.5" unfinished star blocks. Please choose any star block pattern you would like. No raw edges, no fusing, no embellishments, and no light or bright colors. Think of the night sky with low-contrast. Use only dark blues and grays (batiks, plaids, whatever you choose).

Thank you!

Due date: Sept. 15, 2025.
